Terrible news. Uganda’s president Museveni signed the draconian anti-gay bill into law.
Brushing aside Western threats and criticism, Museveni significantly strengthened Africa’s antigay movement today, signing into law a bill imposing harsh sentences for homosexual acts, including life imprisonment in some cases, according to government officials.
South Africa’s Desmond Tutu likens it to the prejudice and discrimination of Nazi Germany and the Apartheid era in his own country.

Ugandan President Museveni has signed the anti-gay bill, according to Simon Lokodo, the Minister for Ethics and Integrity, who states this week that homosexual behavior is “repugnant to the lives of the people of Uganda.”
Several other reports from within Uganda suggest that the Ugandan president has signed the country’s new anti-gay bill into law. Dr Frank Mugisha, founder of Sexual Minorities Uganda – SMUG tweeted to say that “reliable but unconfirmed sources”, said the bill was now law.
President Obama this weekend condemned Uganda’s anti-gay bill once again, publicly warning the country’s president that such discrimination could harm its relationship with the United States. The bill, Mr. Obama added, “will be more than an affront and a danger to the gay community in Uganda.”
President Museveni of Uganda signaled on Friday that he was likely to sign a bill that would punish the “the promotion or recognition” of same-sex relations with as much as life in prison.

In 2009, American evangelical extremist Scott Lively spoke to the Ugandan parliament for hours about the “evils of homosexuality.” Weeks later, the anti-gay bill was introduced, which parliament passed less than a month ago.
Last week, Uganda’s president Museveni wrote an eight-page letter to parliament, protesting this same anti-gay law. But hold your horses. Then his letter continues with an onslaught of stupidity:
